Everyne wants t be well-liked. As humans, we are brn with the need t be valued and liked by thers. Being part f a grup has been necessary in a lt f ways. Cnnectin is a basic human need.
Many peple feel as thugh they have t be a certain way t be well-liked. They think thers will like them mre if they put their best selves frward, dn’t make mistakes, and always knw the right thing t say. Hwever, sme surprising science may be putting all this in questin.
      The Pratfall Effect
It turns ut that peple wh never make mistakes are actually less likeable. Accrding t an experiment by Ellit Arnsn in the 1960s, peple wh made a small blunder, such as drpping cffee ver their shirt, were cnsidered mre likeable than thse wh didn’t. This was nly true fr peple wh were cnsidered cmpetent (有能力的) in the first place, thugh. This phenmenn (现象) was termed the Pratfall Effect.
The Pratfall Effect shws that it’s nt nly kay t make mistakes, but it can actually be helpful t us. Vulnerability (weakness) is endearing (讨人喜欢的). It helps us frm cnnectins with thers. When we understand where smene is cming frm an cnnectin with them, we develp a deep emtinal bnd and like them mre.
Apply this t yur wn life
Yu can use this infrmatin t yur advantage. Firstly, it’s imprtant t knw likeability depends n cntext. What smene finds endearing in ne situatin may nt wrk in anther, and different peple might find different qualities mre likeable. Smetimes the things we dislike the mst abut urselves are the mst endearing t thers. The same can be true fr the ppsite. Just be yur true self and peple will find what they lve mst abut yu.
Secndly, vulnerability is a gd thing. Sharing the mst inner, real parts f yurselves can create meaningful cnnectins. Pretending (假装) t be perfect is nt smething that peple find endearing. But pening up is smething that peple can easily cnnect with.
Likeability is nt as straightfrward as yu might think. What yu think makes yu mre likeable might actually make yu less likeable. Stp pretending yu never make mistakes. It’s the best path t a true and meaningful human cnnectin.
44.What can we learn frm the Pratfall Effect?
A.Life experience can be enriched by making mistakes.
B.The fear f making mistakes makes peple mre careful.
C.Peple wh make small mistakes may turn ut t be mre likeable.
D.The ability t learn frm mistakes makes a persn mre cmpetent.
      45.What is the writer’s pinin n vulnerability?
A.It leads us t the right way t be perfect.
B.It wrks as a smart way t express ur pinins.
C.It makes ther peple feel better abut themselves.
D.It helps us frm meaningful cnnectins with thers.
46.The writer suggests that we shuld stay true t urselves because ________.
A.likeability varies in different casesB.n ne can be perfect
C.we shuld accept and like wh we areD.it’s hard t pretend all the time
47.Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the passage?
A.A Secret t Imprving Yur Quality f Life
B.A Key t Being Likeable When Making Mistakes
C.The Pssible Benefits f Building up Cnnectins
D.The Surprising Science Behind Being Well-liked
Have yu ever bught a new car and started nticing the exact clr and mdel f car everywhere? Has that type f car just becme ppular in yur city? Were they there befre? Or are yu just ging crazy?
Yu’re nt ging crazy. The reasn yu are nw just nticing them is what psychlgists call “priming”. Basically, the cars were always there. Yu just didn’t recgnize them cnsciusly (有意识地). Hwever, when that certain mdel f car becmes part f yur cnscius thinking, yu start “autmatically” recgnizing all f the ther cars that are the same, because yu are already “primed” t d s.
The priming effect takes many frms. In ne study, students were asked t walk arund a rm fr 5 minutes at a rate f 30 steps per minute, which was abut ne-third their nrmal pace (步速). After this brief experience, the participants were much quicker t recgnize wrds related t ld age, such as frgetful, ld, and lnely. Reciprcal priming effects tend t prduce a cherent reactin: if yu are primed t think f ld age, yu wuld tend t act ld, and acting ld wuld strengthen the thught f ld age. This research shws that the way we think influences the way we act, and the way we act influences the way we think.
A similar cnclusin was reached by the American psychlgist William James a century ag, but he emphasized (强调) the effect n feeling. “Actins seem t fllw feeling, but really actins and feeling g tgether; and by regulating (管理) the actin, which is under the mre direct cntrl f the will, we can indirectly regulate the feeling, which is nt. Thus the path t cheerfulness, shuld ur cheerfulness be lst, is t sit up cheerfully and t act and speak as if cheerfulness were already there.”
S, that’s it. If yu want t be happy, just sit up and act happy. Based n these scientific findings, we can take certain priming effects t help make urselves cntinuusly happier.
One thing we have in cmmn is ur ability t think, and thus feel. Pleasant thughts have been prven t prduce the chemicals that make us feel happy, particularly thughts and feelings f gratitude. When we purpsefully (有目的地) g thrugh and think abut the things we’re grateful fr and purpsely feel as much gratitude as we can, we are flding ur mind with the “happy chemicals”. Furthermre, by cnsciusly thinking, feeling and expressing gratitude, we will nt nly be happier in the mment, we will be “primed” t recgnize the things in ur life t appreciate. Each time this happens, the “happy chemicals” will be prduced. D this every day and we will becme cntinuusly happier. This makes up fr the shrt-term happiness we get frm eating chclate r buying new clthes. Mre than that, cmbining thughts f gratitude with happy acts like smiling and laughing will have a supplementary (补偿性地) psitive effect n ur state f mind.
48.Which f the fllwing is an example f the priming effect?
A.Walking much faster after attending a lecture abut ld age.
B.Giving mney t the pr after seeing pictures f cute cats.
C.Learning abut different types f cars after buying the first car.
D.Cmpleting SO P as SOUP rather than SOAP after seeing the wrd EAT.
49.What des the underlined wrd “reciprcal” in Paragraph 3 prbably mean?
      A.Related.B.Tw-way.C.Well-runded.D.Oppsite.
50.What will the authr prbably agree with?
      A.Eating r shpping leads t cntinuus feelings f happiness.
B.Our will has greater cntrl ver emtins than ver actins.
C.Happy chemicals make us think abut the things we’re grateful fr.
D.Practicing gratitude frequently prepares us fr lng-term happiness.
51.Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the passage?
      A.Prime Yurself t Be HappierB.Share Happiness t Enhance Wellbeing
C.Why Gratitude Is Imprtant in PsychlgyD.Hw Happy Chemicals Affect Peple’s Thughts
      六、任务型阅读(本大题共1小题)

      The Sprt f Cncentratin

Sn after, I started training fr a marathn the ld-fashined way—withut a device n my wrist tracking my pace r heart rate. T my surprise, running withut all that infrmatin turned ut t be a real jy.

Anther psitive thing abut getting rid f all my running gadgets is that it’s helping me cncentrate (集中注意力) mre n the running itself. Since I n lnger feel like I need technlgy t run well, I can g ut and run withut wrrying abut battery life.
S, what’s the lessn here? Well, we culd very easily replace the example f running with writing, studying, r anything else. N matter what it is, the mre we wrry abut imprving, the mre it hurts ur perfrmance.
