Teaching aims and learning objectivesBy the end of the lesson, students should be able to:1. develop the ability to infer the general meaning from the title and the context;2. pay attention to the time order of the action during the reading procedure;3. encourage the students to be brave, optimistic, imaginative and creative;4. revise and expand vocabulary in the story and conversation. II. Teaching contents1. New words and phrases: rabbit, hole, by, pass, by, dear, watch, fall, hit, herself, alone, low, locked, notice, into, side, through, surprise, look up, pass by, take ... out of, stand up, run across, jump down, get down, hit the ground, find oneself alone, go through2. New sentences: She looked up and saw a white rabbit in a coat passing by.               How amazing!               She found herself alone in a long, low hall.               The strange rabbit surprised Alice. III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty1. Develop the ability to infer the general meaning from the title and context.2. Reinforce students ability to skim the text for overall meaning and scan for details. IV. Teaching proceduresStep 1 Lead-inGreetingsT: Boys and girls, it is so nice to meet you here, my name is Adonis, I am your new English teacher today, do you know the meaning of the word Adonis? It comes from a fairy tale. Today we will also learn a short passage which is from a fairy tale, do you know what it is? Lets watch a video first.T: Yes. The short passage in our book is from a book called Alice in wonderland. Do you know the main idea of the short passage? Lets watch another video.T: Well. The main characters of the story are Alice and a white rabbit. Is there anything strange with the rabbit? Yes, the rabbit is in a coat? Do you know why? Please read the story by yourself and find out what happened to Alice. Step 2 Presentation1. Pre-readingT: What is the main idea of this passage?S: Alice down the rabbit hole.T: Yes. Before we get to know the whole story, lets finish the exercise on Part B1T: you may have some difficulties in reading the story, here are some pictures and important phrases, can you match the phrases with the correct picture?2. Fast readingT: Great, here are some pictures in this story. Can you find out the right place for each picture and put them in the correct order?T:  You have got the correct order of these pictures, so you can also divide this passage into different parts. After that, you should find out the main idea of each part and tell me.3. Further readingT: Read Paras 1 & 2 together and tell “T” or “F”.1. The story happened on a cloudy day2. Alice was playing with a rabbit.3. The rabbit asked Alice the time.4. The rabbit could speak.T: Read Para 3 and answer following questions.    1. What did Alice do after the rabbit?2. Where did Alice jump into?3. Why did she do that?T:Fill in the blanks according to Paras.4-54. Post-readingT: Finish the table according to the story  5. Retell the storyT: Now, lets try to retell the story with the help of these sentences. And I will show you some pictures for help too. You can prepare it with your partners.S: One Sunny day, Alice sat by a river with her sister. Then she heard a sound. She looked up and saw a rabbit passing by. She stood up and ran across the field after the rabbit. Then she jumped down a hole after the rabbit. She fell for a long time. At last she found herself in a hall. She noticed a small door and she could see a lovely garden on the other side, but she couldnt go through the door, because she was too big.6. What do you think of Alice?T: Youve done a great job. What do you think of Alice? Can you use some words to describe her? You may use the sentence structure: I think she was ... because ....  T: I think Alice was curious, brave and careful. Lets enjoy a short passage:Alice was curious, brave and careful, so she found her wonderland in the story. In fact, everybody has a dream world, if you are curious, brave and careful, maybe someday, you can find your wonderland in your life!
