T invites Ss to listen to the poem “Don’t Quit”and ask “what message does this poem want to deliver?”

T guides Ss to match the three authors with the information and introduce several new key words.

T leads Ss to finish the following tasks：

Task 1： read the text to get the main ideas of each paragraph and the whole passage， and get the genre accordingly.

Task 2： find out the problems three writers meet and their reactions.

Task 3： choose a suitable title for the passage.

Post-

reading

T leads Ss to finish the following tasks：

Task 1： complete the two unfinished sentences “we regret to inform you...”，and “we are delighted to inform you...” and think about why does the author use this two sentences in the passage.

Task 2： retell the passage according to the structure and point out what words and expressions from the passage have you used to retell.

Homework

Option 1：retell the passage according to the structure we get from the class.

Option 2：write about another famous writer’s road to success.

Option 3：research for other important qualities a person possesses in order to achieve success.
