Activity 1: Review:
T leads in the class by a reviewing questin:
What d yu think makes Jhn Snw the father f epidemilgy?

The reviewing questin nt nly helps students reflect and cncludes the last sessin, but als activates Ss’ existing knwledge abut the tpic and stimulates Ss’ mtivatin in reading and thinking. In this activity, Ss’ learning strategies and thinking abilities f cmparing, analyzing and reflecting are enhanced.
Activity 2: Reading fr infrmatin
1. Scan the first text and find ut why he is called “the father f China’s Aerspace”.
2. Draw a timeline f Qian Xuesen’s life experiences.
3. Besides his intelligence, patritism, knwledge, cmmitment, innvatin, devtin, persistence and ambitin, what else makes Qian Xuesen the father f China’s aerspace?
4. Read the secnd passage and find ut the answer t the fllwing questins:
1) What’s special abut Stephen Hawking?
2) What made him famus?
3) What made him a genius?

Scanning fr specific infrmatin helps Ss get a clear picture f the basic structure and writing techniques f the passage, navigating Ss’ reading fr further infrmatin. Ss’ linguistic ability is highly facilitated in this activity.
Activity 3: Further thinking
1. What are the mst imprtant persnal qualities a scientist must have t be successful?
2. What d great scientist have in cmmn? Fill in the blanks and find ut.

Ss are expected t cnclude and further explre the elements that cntribute t a scientist’s greatness. In this activity, Ss’ thinking abilities f cmparing, analyzing, inferring and generalizing are highly facilitated.
Activity 4: Brainstrming
1. Hw wuld yu write abut what makes a great scientist?
2. What d yu knw abut these scientists?

Ss are encuraged t brainstrm and cnclude the writing techniques f intrducing a scientist based n the new infrmatin gained frm reading and existing knwledge abut a certain scientist. This activity als prvides a stimulus fr Ss t attain mre infrmatin fr the fllwing writing assignment.
Activity 5: Assignment
1. Read the passage The 10 Greatest Scientists f All Time fr mre infrmatin n great scientists thrugh ""
2. Chse yur favrite scientist, search mre infrmatin abut him/her nline and write a passage titled with “My Favrite Scientist”.
