Step1 Lead in
Lead in the tpic by a picture f Yuan Lngping and intrduce abut him.
Ask the students: Q1: When we talk abut Yuan Lngping, what cmes t yur mind?
Step2 Learning Abut Language
Activity 1
1.Lk at a picture. What was Yuan Lngping ding in the picture?
Yuan Lngping was wrking the land. Guide the students t recall sme wrds.
2.Ask the students: Hw did he wrk n the land? (find ut sme verbs.)
devte, tackle, bst, cnvince, attain, vercme, expand, estimate, generate
3.What kind f land did he want t change? (find ut sme adjectives.)
salty, cnventinal, characteristic
4.We can gather the same type f wrds tgether in the circle.
Tell students the tip 1: lexical chunks.
Activity 2
Students use the wrds in lexical chunks t replace the underlined wrds with the crrect frms f the wrds.
2. The students finish the task in exercise 1 (n the textbk page52) independently.
3. Check the answers tgether.
4. Tell students the tip 2: Synnym. A wrd r expressin has the same r nearly the same meaning.

Students shw the characteristics f Yuan Lngping.
2.Lead students t think:The characteristics f a persn are the special qualities that make him r her different frm thers.
Activity 4
Cmplete the sentences in exercise 2 (n the textbk page52) with the crrect frms f the wrds frm the text.
Tell students the tip 3: A sentence is a cntext. Practice yur understanding f a wrd by making sentences.
