Tw years ag, my 11-year-ld sn sat me dwn fr a talk. “Mm, it’s time.” he said. “Hear me ut: It’s time we gt actual TV. And yu need an iPhne.”
This funny cnversatin tw years ag marked a shift in ur relatinship.
Perhaps fr the first time, I began t really listen t my sn’s pinin abut ur hme technlgy. Since his reasning was sensible and his suggestins within budget, I
tk his advice and was pleasantly surprised with the results.
I’d knwn fr a while that my sn understands technlgy better than I d. On airplanes, he grabbed my phne t put it in airplane mde. He wired the speakers in ur huse. After smething was stlen frm ur frnt yard, he picked ut, set up, and nw mnitrs ur security camera. When my cmputer died, I tk him shpping
      with me.
As a teenager nw, he has a busy scial life, with skatebarding, basketball, and nline gaming with his friends. I see ur time tgether decreasing and ur shared
interests shrinking. That’s why I jumped at the chance when a friend mentined
writing technlgy reviews. I’m a writer, but I’d need a partner wh has mre tech knwledge than me. When I presented the idea t my teen, he immediately accepted
It’s changed ur relatinship in surprising ways. Where he used t get annyed quickly at my technical ignrance, he’s learned t be mre patient and explain things t me in a way that I can cnvey t an unknwing audience. The parent-child dynamic is nt nly changed; it’s even slightly reversed — he’s leading me. I’m asking him fr help and advice. My sn has risen t the ccasin. He’s taking it seriusly, and t
watch him mature in this way is an hnr. As smene wh’s nt much f a reader, he nw searches instructin bk. Withut any prmpting, he’s even emailed and called, yes, made an actual phne call t custmer service r tech supprt when
sample prducts weren’t wrking as expected.
I never imagined being a tech reviewer, but it’s prved t be a valuable way t learn frm, wrk with and enjy time with my teen.
24 .What did the writer think f her sn’s advice?
A .It was unaffrdable. B .It was beynd reach.
C .It sunded reasnable. D .It sunded surprising.

B .Describe their clse parent-child relatinship.

An internatinal team led by scientists at the Hng Kng University f Science and Technlgy (HKUST) has recently develped the wrld's first 3-D artificial eye with capabilities that even utperfrm thse f the human eyes, bringing visin t
humanid rbts and new hpe t patients with visual damage.
Scientists have spent decades trying t prduce the exact cpies f the structure and clarity f a bilgical eye, but visin prvided by existing artificial eyes with
external wires are still in pr reslutin(分辨率) with 2-D flat image sensrs. The Electrchemical Eye (EC-Eye) develped at HKUST, hwever, may actually ffer
sharper visin than a human eye, with extra functins such as the ability t see things in darkness.
The key feature allwing such breakthrughs is a 3-D artificial retina(视网膜), made f nanwire light sensrs which are like the phtreceptr in human retinas.
The scientists cnnected the nanwire light sensrs t sme liquid-metal wires
serving as nerves behind the human-made retina during the experiment, and
successfully carried ut the visual signal transmissin t reflect what the eye sees nt the cmputer screen. In the future, thse nanwire light sensrs culd be directly
cnnected t the nerves f the visually damaged patients. Apart frm that, the
artificial retina can receive mre light signals and ptentially attain a higher image reslutin than human retina.
With further adjustment, the EC-Eye can be a self-pwered image sensr, s
there is n need fr external pwer surce, which will be much mre user-friendly as cmpared with the current technlgy. “The current artificial eyes are still f n
match t the human eyes. A new technlgy is in urgent need, and it gives me a
strng mtivatin t start this uncnventinal prject. In the next step, we plan t
further imprve the perfrmance f ur device. Animal and clinical trials are nw
being planned. I think if everything is n track, perhaps in five years, the technlgy will becme practical,” said Prf Fan, whse team has spent nine years t cmplete the current study.
      28 .What’s the feature f the EC-Eye?
A.It prvides a clearer visin than human eyes. B.It perfrms better at night than in the day.
C .It is attached with external wires. D .It uses 2-D flat image sensrs.
29 .What’s the functin f nanwire light sensrs?
A .T send cmputer signals. B .T receive visual signals.
C .T serve as nerves behind the retina. D .T cnnect nerves f patients t the wires.
30 .What can we infer abut the EC-Eye frm Dr Fan’s wrds?
A .It is f n match t human eyes. B .It has been imprved by the team.
C .It is different frm the previus devices. D .It will be in clinical trials in five years.
31 .What can be the best title fr the text?
A .EC-Eye Will Becme Ppular in the Near Future
B .Nanwire Light Sensrs Help Peple See in Darkness
C .Scientists Have Develped First Artificial Eye with 3-D Retina
D .3-D Technlgy Helps t Cure Peple f Their Eye Diseases

"" The U. S. is in the midst f a “lneliness epidemic”. Fr a lt f peple, the
feeling is even mre nticeable during the hlidays. In additin t the emtinal
impact f chrnic lneliness, it has sme dramatic health cnsequences: increased risk f heart disease and strke, infectins, cancer, even death.
Peple may feel lnely when their scial needs are nt met by the peple arund them. Laetitia Mwilambwe-Tshilb, a scial cgnitive neurscientist at Princetn
University, says lneliness epidemic captures tw distinct grups: first, peple with a lw number f scial cnnectins; secnd, peple wh feel they have pr quality
      existing relatinships.
Elisa Baek, a scial neurscientist at the University f Suthern Califrnia,
c-authred a study that lked at whether lnely peple view the wrld differently
than nn-lnely peple, specifically amng cllege freshmen. Baek fund that while nn-lnely peple were all similar in their neural respnses, lnely peple had
respnses that were really different — nt just frm the nn-lnely grup, but als
frm each ther. Baek says that these idisyncrasies (特性) in hw lnely participants prcess the wrld, “may pse challenges in hw these peple are able t achieve
scial cnnectin and feel cnnected with thers.”
T study these changes t the brain, Baek’s team cllected fMRI data — a measure f bld flw changes in the brain — while first-year cllege students
watched shrt vides t measure hw similarly participants’ brains respnded t the
vides. The vides ranged frm dramatic and cmedic clips t instructinal
demnstratins in rder t reprduce experiences participants might have in daily life. She says it’s the clsest they culd get t study peple’s brain activity — and hw
they prcess the wrld — while they were ging abut their lives.
Mwilambwe-Tshilb, wh is nt invlved in the study, says the research
accurately highlights hw individual differences affect peple in experiencing
lneliness. “Trying t cnnect mre deeply with ne r tw r three ther peple may be mre imprtant than t try t get t knw everybdy and being n gd terms with everybdy. It desn’t have t be smene wh is like-minded. It’s mre like: Hw
can we get n the same page with peple wh we might nt start ff n the same page with, but that might frm deeper cnnectins afterwards?” she adds.
32 .Which descriptin best characterizes the “lneliness epidemic”?
A .Harmful mentally and physically. B .Exclusive t peple with few friends.
C .Striking thrughut the year. D .Spreading between peple.
33 .What can be inferred frm the study cnducted by Elisa Baek?
A .Its findings fcus n the differences between lnely and nn-lnely peple.
B .It targets freshman students at the University f Suthern Califrnia.
C .It casts light n hw lnely peple perceive the wrld.
D .It challenges lnely peple t be mre scial.
34 .What is required f the vides fr the study?
A .T mnitr the respnse speed. B .T mdel everyday situatins.
C .T study the recreatinal activities. D .T lk int the brain structures.
35 .What advice might Mwilambwe-Tshilb give t lnely peple?
A .Expand the scial netwrk. B .Befriend with thse in high places.
C .Seek ut friends wh think alike. D .Deepen cnnectins with patience.
