Furteen-year-ld William Kamkwamba watched his father, Trywell, stare at the
dead crnfields — nt with anger, but with the quiet agny f a man whse wisdm had been surpassed by a
changing wrld. Driven by a restlessness that hunger culdn’t dull, William began haunting the village’s small,
根据第一段中“The ther bys laughed; bks culdn’t fill a belly.(其他男孩都嘲笑他,书本根本
Even his father, seeing precius time spent n “tys” while the family starved,
One evening, as his father sat in defeated silence, William led him t the yard. He

including agave — the surce f tequila (龙舌兰酒) and many fruits. Meanwhile, fruit bats are imprtant seed
dispersers; they swallw seeds while eating fruit and depsit them far frm the parent tree, aiding frest
regeneratin acrss cleared lands.
Hwever, these guardians face an uncertain future. Habitat lss due t defrestatin, disturbance f resting
sites, and widespread pesticide (杀虫剂) use that destrys mst f their insect fd are severe threats. A devastating
fungal disease called White-nse Syndrme has killed millins f bats in Nrth America since 2006. Furthermre,
slw reprductin rates (mst species have nly ne baby bat per year) slw dwn ppulatin recvery.
Cnservatin effrts s are many-sided. Prtecting crucial habitats like caves and frests is fundamental.
Installing “bat bxes” prvides alternative rsts (栖息处). Public educatin campaigns aim t dispel myths and
highlight bats’ benefits, turning fear int appreciatin. Scientists are als studying bat immune systems, which may
hld clues fr cmbating diseases like White-Nse Syndrme. The survival f these unseen guardians is nt just
abut saving bats; it’s abut preserving the cmplex balance f the ecsystems that sustain us all.
5. What is the main purpse f the first tw paragraphs?

A. Reduced fd supply due t pesticides.
B. Illegal hunting fr cmmercial purpses.
C. Decrease in natural water surces fr drinking.
D. Destructin f bat migratin rutes by strng winds.
8. What can be inferred frm the text abut bat cnservatin?
A. It relies simply n gvernment actins and strict laws.
B. It fcuses mainly n breeding prgrams t increase their numbers.
C. It has been s successful that mst bat species are n lnger endangered.
D. It invlves bth physical prtectin and the change f human perceptins.

Habitat lss due t defrestatin, disturbance f resting sites, and widespread
pesticide (杀虫剂) use that destrys mst f their insect fd are severe threats.(由于森林砍伐导致的栖息地丧失、
故选 A。
Prtecting crucial habitats like caves and frests is fundamental. Installing “bat

E 选项“Mst pet wners find their presence incredibly pleasant.(大多数宠
中的“presence”对应“greet us, sleep next t us, and play”,
In challenging times, such as the lss f a lved ne, a bad breakup r a rugh time at wrk, we may
feel dwn.
