SHANGHAI——Health researchers in Shanghai are calling fr mre prtectin fr yung children as the latest research shws abut half f the children are suffering(受折磨)frm secndhand smke.
Abut 45% f children suffer passive(被动的)smking in families, 50% in public places, and almst 6% n public transprtatin, shws a research reprted by the Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC)n Tuesday.
"Nt nly adults but als children and newbrn babies are at risk fr the bad effects f passive smking," said Tang Jingyan, a dctr. Research has shwn that children wh are living in a secndhand smke situatin will suffer frm mre clds, cughs and sre thrats, and they are mre likely t suffer frm pneumnia(肺炎)and will have a higher risk f develping cancer. Dctrs even suggested that children suffering passive smking are mre likely t have behaviral prblems and may nt develp mentally(智力上) as quickly as ther children.
Other research by the SCMC has fund that mre than 80% f child patients in the center live in a smke-filled husehld, where ne r bth parents smke. "Thugh dctrs have stressed the harm f passive smking ver and ver, it is still hard t reach a ttally smke-free hme," said a dctr named Zhang Yiwen. Parents ften want t smke even thugh the have learned the harmful effects f secndhand smke.
China has 540 millin peple suffering frm passive smke,180 millin f the yunger than 15, the age f smkers is als getting lwer, "earlier reprts said. "There are mre yung smkers than befre.
