Imagine a chamelen (变色龙) standing n a rainbw. With every step, it changes clr, trying t
match its surrundings. But the mre it tries, the mre cnfused it gets. Is it red, blue, r green? This is
the dilemma (困境) many teenagers face tday — shifting identities (身份) in an attempt t belng.
Psychlgist Erik Eriksn described adlescence as a stage f “identity vs. rle cnfusin.” It’s a
time when yung peple struggle with questins abut their values, purpse, and self-wrth. Take a girl
fr example, a 16-year-ld student named Wanjiku in Nairbi. At hme, her parents remind her t
maintain cultural values — dress mdestly, respect elders, and pursue a “practical” career like medicine
r law. At schl, her peers laugh at her fr nt being “cl” enugh because she desn’t fllw the
latest TikTk trends r wear designer sneakers. Wanjiku feels like a chamelen, cnstantly changing t
fit int spaces where she never feels truly accepted.
This tug-f-war (拔河) between cultural expectatins and glbal influences is a defining aspect f
the identity crisis fr many teenagers. Urban teens struggle with balancing traditin and mdernity,
while thse in rural areas feel left behind in a digital age they can barely access. Add peer pressure and
academic expectatins t the mix, and the search fr identity becmes even mre challenging.
The gd news is that every teenager has the ptential t vercme this crisis and find their true
self. Like a tree bending in the wind, they may shake under pressure but can grw strnger with the
right supprt. Teens need t understand that their wrth isn’t determined by thers’ pinins. Activities
like jurnaling can help them reflect n their values, passins and strengths. Parents and teachers can
guide teenagers tward discvering their true selves. Teaching teenagers t critically analyze scial
media can prtect them frm falling int the trap f cmparisn.

Mve ver prtein (蛋白质), there’s a new ht nutrient-fiber (纤维)! The scial media trend f
fibermaxxing fcuses n eating mre fiber at meals and snacks. Like all trends, it can be dne crrectly.
Yet many n scial media are ding it incrrectly — and even dangerusly.

nly fds like vegetables, fruit, beans, peas, nuts and seeds at meals and snacks, but als by adding
varius fiber supplements (补充剂), which gets them abve the recmmended daily fiber amunt.
“Like s many TikTk trends, this ne has the ptential fr harm if nt apprached prperly,” says
dietitian (营养学家)Rsanne Rust, c-authr f the frthcming ckbk “The GLP-1Kitchen”. Rust
explains that many f the trending vides prpse “fibermaxxing” t help treat blating ( 腹 胀 ),
hwever mst peple aren’t aware f hw much fiber they are eating befre they adpt this trend and
then add 20 grams f fiber (r mre) t their diet vernight.
Accrding t dietitian Liz Weiss, funder f Liz’s Healthy Table, balance matters. “Peple with
certain medical cnditins ften need t limit their fiber intake.” says Weiss. This is because high
amunts f fiber can be difficult fr their systems t manage and may wrsen symptms.
“If yu’re nt sure hw much fiber is right fr yu, a registered dietitian nutritinist can help guide
yu,” says Weiss. “Trends may cme and g, but a well-balanced, whle-fd diet will always stand the
test f time.”

A. Peple verd it unknwingly.
B. It spreads fast n scial media.

Text 9
Jack, hw did yu becme interested in such a dangerus sprt?
M: Well, first I'd like t pint ut that climbing isn't a dangerus sprt, if yu take it seriusly. Almst all the peple wh have accidents are badly prepared, and this gives the sprt a bad name.
W: Is the excitement part f the reasn why yu are s keen n climbing?
M: Only a small part f the reasn. The sense f achievement is mre imprtant, I suppse. But the main thing is the sensatin f being s clse t nature.
W: I suppse yu get a view f muntains that nbdy else really sees?
M: Yes. But if I was drpped n the tp f a muntain by helicpter, it wuldn't be the same. It's knwing that yu've cvered the distance t the tp yurself, fighting every inch f the way. That's what makes yu feel s pleased with yurself when yu get t the tp.
W: Hw did yur parents feel when yu were addicted t the sprt?
M: Oh! Very anxius that I shuld get the prper training and experience, but they've never tried t put me ff. They were able t supprt me financially, which was useful.
