I vlunteered t give a speech fr the cming cmmemratin day. The fcus f my planned speech wuld be t change the reading f the names and hnrable title f ur late heres frm smething rutine int smething that wuld make it clear that these were genuine heres wh nce walked amng us. I tried cntacting their family members, distant relatives, and ld friends. Amazed, everyne was s thrilled t share s many fnd stries and ld phts f their lved nes that I felt as if I knew each her persnally.
I integrated all thse int my speech, which turned ut well received, acting as the catalyst (催化剂) that gt ur cmmemratin day bservance back n track. Twnspeple, nce reminded, were happy t dive in and shw their respect.

As the schl year winds dwn, summer camps, enrichment prgrams and extracurricular planning step up. Hwever, a quieter cntrary trend is starting t gain attentin. It’s called “kid rtting”, a playful term fr what kids shuld just be in summer: lunging (慵懒), daydreaming and being bred.
Behind the phrase is a serius shift in thinking. Mre experts are beginning t ask whether kids might actually need mre unstructured time, nt less. Parents may wrry that unstructured time will lead t laziness. But experts suggest the ppsite is true, especially when it cmes t imaginatin, independence and emtinal develpment. “When kids aren’t scheduled every minute, they daydream, explre their interests, think critically, slve prblems and build cnfidence, gaining the very skills that ften get sidelined during a tightly structured schl year,” says Tanyell Cle, a therapist with a bachelr’s in psychlgy. Let kids decide hw t use unstructured time, with games r utdr play. Over time, that freedm becmes smething they value and even lk frward t.
One f the biggest barriers t an unscheduled summer is screen time. What starts as a little leisure time can quickly becme hurs lst t scial media scrlling. That’s where intentinal supervisin (监督) cmes in. Make screens smething that happen with kids, nt just arund them. Watch a mvie tgether and try a cking vide tutrial as a family. Limit screen time and make it a rule t priritize real life in summer.
With unstructured time, a 3-year-ld can get their wn snack if it’s within reach. A 10-year-ld can ck a meal. A teen can get a summer jb r vlunteer. When kids are trusted with real respnsibilities, they begin t trust themselves, and that sense f capability is what drives true cnfidence.
Ultimately, a “rt” summer might be the reset children need after a year f packed schedules and digital veruse. Let yur child be still, be curius, and be bred, because that’s where they start t figure ut wh they are.
      8. What des “kid rtting” refer t?
      A. Invlving kids in after-class activities.B. Letting kids d nthing intentinally.
      C. Stpping kids t pursue their dreams.D. Arranging fr kids t d daily chres.
      9. What is the main reasn fr experts supprting “kid rtting”?

      C. It pens up space fr kids’ mental grwth.
      D. It culd reduce parents’ summer expenses.
      10. What des the authr suggest parents d abut screen time?

      B. Cmpletely quit scial media during summer.
      C. Allw it nly fr educatinal purpses.
      D. Let kids manage their wn screen time.

      C. T stress the necessity f learning basic life skills early.
      D. T shw unstructured time applies t all grwth stages.

As the wrld’s appetite fr electrnic devices grws ever bigger, the ther side f the cin — e-waste — is raising alarms. Accrding t a UN reprt, 62 millin tns f e-waste was generated in 2022, enugh t fill 1.5 millin trucks.
Mst f the e-waste went t landfills r burning, with ptential negative cnsequences fr the envirnment and human health. Besides, $62 billin-wrth f recyclable resurces like rare earth elements are lst in the prcess. Currently, just 1% f the wrld’s demand fr these elements, which are necessary t mdern electrnic devices, is met by e-waste recycling.
Aquafade, a plastic which can cmpletely disslve (溶解) in abut six hurs when placed in water, brings hpe. It culd be used in cmputers r keybards, and disslve when they’re n lnger wanted, making it easier t recycle the mst valuable cmpnents and reducing e-waste.
“Fr mst electrnic prducts, when they’re being recycled, it’s the disassembly (拆卸) that’s the real hassle. Anther bttleneck in e-waste recycling is transprtatin, which raises csts and creates carbn emissins.” says Samuel Wangsaputra, ne f the inventrs f Aquafade. “I think the brilliant bit with Aquafade is that a lt f that prcess is simply dne at hme.”
Their challenge is t make a cating (涂层). It is als made f a plastic plymer, nly applied t the uter shell, making the prduct water resistant up t five meters fr 30 minutes, which cvers accidental spills r wet weather. But nce we disassemble the prduct, it creates a crack. That’s when we put it in water t disslve six hurs later, and what’s left is the mst valuable parts f the prduct.
Peter Edwards, a prfessr at the University f Oxfrd, calls it “an interesting develpment”, but wnders whether the disslved plastic will persist in the envirnment and ultimately end up as micrplastic. Samuel acknwledges they have nt yet fully investigated hw the slutin wuld bidegrade (生物降解) in the lng term.
      12. What is the main cncern raised abut e-waste in paragraph 2?
      A. The rising cst f recycling e-waste.
      B. The great lss f valuable materials.
      C. The insufficient supply f rare earth elements.
      D. The public’s appetite fr new electrnic gds.
      13. What des the underlined wrd “hassle” in paragraph 4 mean?
      A. Strategy.B. Reasn.C. Truble.D. Value.
      14. What was the primary technical challenge in develping Aquafade?
      A. Ensuring the cating disslves quickly enugh.
      B. Making a material that bidegrades cmpletely.
      C. Applying the cating t the internal parts f a device.
      D. Creating a cating resisting water yet disslving in it.
      15. What is Peter Edwards’ attitude t Aquafade?
      A. Careful.B. Supprtive.C. Critical.D. Unclear.
