Being incredibly talented desn’t mean yu’re untuched by anxiety, and many f the wrld’s best have t handle anxiety precisely because they expect s much frm themselves.
Take the wrld’s best sccer player named Mellinix. Fr all his brilliance, thugh, he’s famusly anxius. Fr years, he habitually vmited n the field befre big games.
But Mellinix hasn’t allwed his anxiety t vershadw his brilliance because he’s mastered a cping mechanism that als dubles as the secret behind his tactical (战术的) brilliance.
A sccer game lasts 90 minutes, with players active frm the start. Mellinix is knwn fr nt engaging in the game initially, ften walking near the field’s center and nt interacting with teammates. While thers run, Mellinix mstly walks, seldm accelerating beynd a slw jg.
Mellinix des tw things during these first few minutes. First, he calms himself. Easing int the match is Mellinix’s way f ensuring he’s fully engaged fr the remainder f the match. His n-field vmiting has reslved itself, in part perhaps because he’s fund a mre effective way t calm his nerves. Secnd, he spends this time scping ut the ppsitin. His legs mve slwly, but his eyes jump frm player t player, assessing his ppnents’ strengths, weaknesses and tactics.
In ftball matches, Mellinix relies mre n the preparatin phase (阶段). In the classic match
between Barcelna and Real Madrid, Mellinix nly ran fr fur minutes, while fr ver eighty minutes he was walking. Hwever, when he engaged in the game, he was active, creating nine pprtunities, scring a gal, and assisting his teammate t scre anther gal.
That pattern isn’t unusual fr Mellinix, and it’s ften in big games that he lays great stress n his in-game preparatin. That preparatin als explains his ability t find himself in the right place at the right time, ver and ver. Thugh his psitinal play appears supernatural, it’s actually that he’s learned, minute by minute, that a particular defender leaves a particular square f pitch (球场) uncvered r that tw midfielders leave a small crner f the pitch pen when they run t the middle f the field.
The lessn fr us is clear: When yu’re anxius, whether in athletics r in life mre bradly, pause, and prepare.
What des Mellinix usually d at the beginning f a game?
He desn’t play in the game.B. He takes a walk arund the field.
      C. He encurages his teammates.D. He takes an active part in the game.
Which f the fllwing can replace “scping ut” underlined in paragraph 5?
      A. Fllwing.B. Observing.C. Thinking abut. D. Getting used t.
Accrding t the text, when des Mellinix d his preparatin fr a sccer game?
After the game begins.B. Befre the game begins.
      C. When he feels anxius.D. When he lacks cnfidence.
What des Mellinix’s supernatural psitinal play indicate in paragraph 7?
      The time t pause.B. A chance t scre a gal.
      C. The time t enter the game.D. The ability t vercme anxiety.
      C
In department stres and clsets all ver the wrld, they are waiting. Their utward appearance seems rather appealing because they cme in a variety f styles, patterns, materials, and clrs. But they are eventually the biggest deceptin (欺骗) that exists in the fashin industry tday. What are they? They are high heels ― a wman’s wrst enemy (whether she knws it r nt). High heel shes are the dwnfall f mdern sciety. Fashin myths have led wmen t believe that they are mre beautiful r
stylish fr wearing heels, but in reality, heels succeed in creating shrt as well as lng term trubles. Wmen shuld fight the high heel industry by refusing t use r purchase them in rder t save the wrld frm unnecessary physical and psychlgical suffering.
Fr the sake f fairness, it must be nted that there is a psitive side t high heels. First, heels are excellent fr aerating lawns (草坪通气). Anyne wh has ever wrn heels n grass knws what I am talking abut. A simple trip arund the yard in a pair f thse babies gets rid f all the need t call fr a lawn care specialist, and prvides the perfect-sized hles t give any lawn xygen withut all thse messy blcks f dirt lying arund. Secnd, heels are quite functinal fr defending against ptential enemies, wh can easily be scared away by threatening them with a pair f these sharp, deadly fashin items.
Regardless f such practical uses fr heels, the fact remains that wearing high heels is harmful t ne’s physical health. Talk t any pdiatrist ( 足病医生), and yu will hear that the majrity f their business cmes frm high-heel-wearing wmen. High heels are knwn t cause prblems such as defrmed feet and trn tenails. The risk f severe back prblems and twisted r brken ankles is three times higher fr a high heel wearer than fr a flat she wearer. Wearing heels als creates the threat f getting a heel caught in a narrw sidewalk gap and being thrwn t the grund―pssibly breaking a nse, back, r neck. And f curse, after wearing heels fr a day, any wman knws she can lk frward t a night f pain as she tries t cmfrt her aching feet.
Wmen dn’t take the disadvantages f high heels t seriusly because f .
their attempt t shw ff their statusB. the rich variety f high heel styles
      C. their wish t imprve their appearance D. the multi-functinal use f high heels
What’s the authr’s tne in presenting the psitive sides f high heel shes?
      A. irnicB. favrableC. sympatheticD. bjective
The writer uses “thse babies” (Paragraph 2) t refer t high heels .
t shw their fragile characteristicB. t shw wmen’s affectin fr them
      C. t emphasize their small sizeD. t indicate their trendy appearance
It can be inferred frm the passage that wmen shuld .
refuse t buy the prducts f the fashin industry
      g t a pdiatrist regularly fr advice
      avid fllwing fashin t clsely
see thrugh the very nature f fashin myths

Back in 2018, scientists at Duke University discvered that each time ur eyes mve, ur ears make a squeaking ( 吱吱声) nise, which is hard r unable t hear. Nw, the researchers have develped a methd f telling where a persn is lking by analyzing thse sunds. Althugh we dn’t cnsciusly hear the nises, they can be picked up by a highly sensitive micrphne placed in the ear canal.
Lead scientist Prfessr Jennifer Grh believes that they may ccur as eye mvements trigger the brain t cntract either the middle ear muscles r the hair cells — ding the frmer helps dampen lud nises, while ding the latter amplifies (放大) quiet nes. This arrangement culd help us make sense f ur surrundings, by autmatically adjusting the sensitivity f ur hearing based n what we’re lking at.
In a recent experiment, Grh’s team and Prfessr Christpher Shera frm the University f Suthern Califrnia recruited 16 adults, all with gd visin and hearing, t take a simple test. The vlunteers started by visually tracking the mvements f a green dt n a cmputer screen, withut mving their heads. As they did s, an eye-tracking camera recrded the directin f their gaze, while micrphnes in their ear canals recrded their ear sunds.
When the eye vide and ear audi recrdings were subsequently crss-referenced, it was fund that eye mvements in specific directins prduced specific types f ear nises. The scientists were thus able t tell where a participant’s gaze was fcused, simply by identifying what srt f nise “signature” their ears were making. It was als pssible t d the ppsite — the researchers culd accurately tell what srt f sunds the vlunteers’ ears were making, by tracking the directin f their gaze. It is hped that the team’s findings will cntribute t a better understanding f human perceptin (感知), pssibly leading t mre accurate and infrmative hearing tests.
“If each part f the ear cntributes individual rules fr the eardrum signal, then they culd be used
as a type f clinical tl t assess which part f the anatmy(解剖学) in the ear is malfunctining,” said Stephanie Lvich, ne f the lead authrs f the paper and a graduate student in psychlgy& neurscience at Duke.
Why d the ear nises ccur accrding t Prfessr Jennifer Grh?
Sme nises ech in the ear canal ccasinally.
The head mves t quickly alng with the ears.
A highly sensitive micrphne usually causes the nises.
The brain cntracts muscles r hair cells with eye mvements.
What ptential utcme d the researchers anticipate frm their findings?
Creating a new type f hearing aid.
      Enhancing the design f micrphnes.
      Understanding human perceptin better.
Replacing traditinal visin tests with new technlgy.
What des Stephanie Lvich think f these findings?
      A. Cmplex.B. Prmising.C. Faulty.D. Primitive.
What is the best title fr the text?
      The human perceptin is cmplex.
Eye mvements lead t brain respnses.
Scientists knw what yur eyes talk t yur ears.
The evlutin f hearing is discvered by scientists.

T put int wrds my time in Antarctica and Suth Gergia is nearly impssible. I had always described it as a nce-in-a-lifetime experience. 16 I was nt the nly ne wh felt this way. Abut 50% f the passengers f ur expeditin had been t Antarctica at least nce befre. This ges t shw just hw magical the destinatin is.
17 Hw tiny yu feel next t twering glaciers and icebergs. The blinding white blankets everything, blurring the bundary between land and cean. The icy water mves thrugh yur bdy as yu take the Plar Plunge. The slemn silence calms yur restlessness and reminds yu f heart-tuching stries f survival frm explrers f the past. The list ges n.
Antarctica makes yu feel s small and insignificant, in the best way. Everything has a purpse, and the cycle f life is evident. Yu get frnt rw seats t witness the mst incredible shw: nature.
18 Fr example, when yu see a brwn skua (贼鸥) attacking a penguin chick, yur heart aches.
Then yur expeditin guide regretfully tells yu that a chick that is small in March wuld have very slim chances f surviving the upcming winter. 19
Things mve fast here, every mnth ffering smething unique and special t see. In March, the weather is a bit mre unpredictable, and the sea ice is beginning t frm again. Our vyage was the last f the seasn. In tw mre weeks, expeditin ships wuld nt be able t break thrugh the ice. The penguins are cmpleting their yearly feather-changing prcess. They are really weak during this time,
      and cannt dive. 20
These animals, arguably the cutest yu will ever see, survive such unfavrable envirnments. It’s abslutely incredible t witness the challenges, the skill, the effrts, all f it. I am frever grateful t have been a visitr.
But that is nt hw it is.
It is as much cruel as beautiful.
I, years later, did return t this fascinating place.
The cycle cntinues, and yu’ re left wndering wh t supprt.
That all yur senses will be stimulated is the best way I can describe it.
But immediately I stepped ft n the cntinent, I knew I needed t return.
The expeditin team made sure we kept ur distance and did nt scare them.
