I’m taking part in UltraSwim 33.3, an pen-water event that challenges swimmers t cver the distance f an English Channel swim. This may seem an dd way t start an article abut writing. But I’ve lng tld students that writing a nvel is less like a flash f inspiratin and mre like swimming the Channel.
Training fr the UltraSwim meant gradually increasing my distance, strengthening my technique, and adapting t cld water. That is exactly like writing. Just as yu can build physical tirelessness, yu can build creative staying pwer. Fr swimming, that meant cld water adaptability and learning t eat prperly between swims. Fr writing, it means writing even when the wrds feel ff and learning t rewrite what desn’t wrk. Each week I saw my swim times imprve, just as my early drafts began t read less like ntes and mre like chapters.

A free summer camp AI4All at Princetn University wanted t help clse the gap: it invited abut 30 high schlers frm lw-incme families t spend three weeks living n campus, learning abut the math that pwers generative AI and wrk tgether with Princetn teachers t build AI slutins fr real-wrld issues: frm drne (无人机)-based wildfire mnitring t medical prblem-slving.
At Princetn, campers wrked n AI slutins t real-life challenges in medicine, rbtics and envirnmental science. On a mid-July afternn, AI4All campers sat in a grup inside a lecture hall and listened clsely t Princetn prfessr Jaime Fernández Fisac as he explained hw AI culd help drnes fly better. Public K-12 teachers see bth benefits and risks in AI, accrding t a survey. A majrity f thse surveyed believe AI will imprve accessibility f learning materials fr students with disabilities.
