Every s ften, Marg Jimenez says, her husband wuld cme hme frm wrk with injuries. “One day, he came hme with a black eye, his glasses were brken, and he had bites n his arm,” Marg recalled. “I said, ‘Well, did yu reprt it?’ He said, ‘N.’ I said, ‘Why nt?’ He said, ‘Marg, because it happens all the time.’”
Fred Jimenez wrked as a special educatin instructinal assistant fr the Nrthside Independent Schl District in San Antni. He helped students with disabilities meet their learning and physical needs, and his jb invlved everything frm diaper changes (换尿布) t helping students with hands-n instructin t managing vilent utbursts. On Feb.7, a vilent utburst sent him t the hspital when a high schl student with a cgnitive pushed him, causing a fall that led t a brain bleed.
Kreusel, a teacher wh wrked with Fred, has taught middle schlers with cgnitive disabilities fr the past 15 years. She said she lves her students, and desn’t blame them fr hurting her. Many f them have their wn triggers, and Kreusel says she des her best t learn them. But she isn’t always able t avid an utburst. “The student may be aggressive, but it desn’t mean they are targeting yu because they hate yu,” Kreusel said. “It’s usually smething that has happened, and they might be nnverbal. They can’t express it, and they just blw up.”
Accrding t the U. S. Centers fr Disease Cntrl and Preventin, mst students with develpmental disabilities aren’t any mre aggressive than ther students. But fr sme, their disability can lead t frustratin and, in turn, aggressin. That can make it harder fr schl districts t hire special educatin staff, at a time when schls acrss the cuntry are struggling t fill these psitins. And a recent federal survey fund, natinwide, special educatin vacancies (空缺) are the mst difficult fr schls t fill. She thinks she and her clleagues will cntinue t get hurt until the district hires mre instructinal assistants and pays them well enugh that they’re willing t stay.

Prper questining has becme a lst art. The curius fur-year-ld asks a lt f questins—incessant streams f “Why?” and “Why nt?” might sund familiar—but as we grw lder, ur questining decreases. In a recent survey f mre than 200 f ur clients, we fund that thse with children estimated that 70-80% f their kids’ dialgues with thers were cmprised f questins. But thse same clients said that nly 15-25% f their wn interactins cnsisted f questins. Why the drp ff?
Think back t yur time grwing up and in schl. Chances are that yu received the mst recgnitin r reward when yu gt the crrect answers. Later in life, that mtivatr cntinues. At wrk, we ften reward thse wh answer questins, nt thse wh ask them. Questining cnventinal wisdm can even lead t being distanced, r cnsidered a threat.
Because expectatins fr decisin-making have gne frm “get it dne sn” t “get it dne nw” t “it shuld have been dne yesterday”, we tend t jump t cnclusins instead f asking mre questins. And the unfrtunate side effect f nt asking enugh questins is pr decisin-making. That’s why it’s vital that we slw dwn and take the time t ask mre and better questins. At best, we’ll arrive at better cnclusins. At wrst, we’ll avid a lt f rewrk later n.
Aside frm nt speaking up enugh, many prfessinals dn’t think abut hw different types f questins can lead t different utcmes. We shuld lead a cnversatin by asking the right kinds f questins, based n the prblem we’re trying t slve. In sme cases, we’ll want t expand ur view f the prblem rather than keeping it narrwly fcused. In thers, we may want t challenge basic assumptins r cnfirm ur understanding in rder t feel mre cnfident in ur cnclusins. Therefre, asking the right kinds f questins is what cunts in achieving a gal.
8. What des the underlined wrd “incessant” in paragraph 1 mst prbably mean?
A. Simple.B. Randm.C. Cnstant.D. Annying.
9. What accunts fr the decline f questining in adulthd?
A. One pses a threat t the cmpany if they ask questins.
B. Adults dn’t get as many chances as they did in childhd.
C. Thse wh questin ppular beliefs are thught t be wise.
D. Thse asking questins dn’t always get psitive feedback.
10 What can we infer frm paragraph 3?
A. Reding is unavidable despite thughtful questins.
B. Decisins made in a hurry may turn ut t be wrng.
C. Better questins can surely bring desirable utcmes.
D. Mre attentin shuld be paid t making cnclusins.
11. What might the authr cntinue talking abut?
A. Prper questins that shuld be raised.B. Imprtant gals that we are t achieve.
C. Right kinds f answers t the questins.D. Ways t expand ur view f the prblem.
D
The ability t detect a nearby presence withut seeing r tuching it may sund fantastical — but it’s a real ability that sme creatures have. A family f African fish knwn as Mrmyrids are weakly electric, and have special rgans that can lcate a nearby target, even when it’s hiding in the mud. Scientists have nw develped an artificial sensr system mdelled n the ability f these fish.
“We develped a new strategy fr 3D mtin psitining by electrnic skin, bi-inspired by ‘electric fish’,” says Dr. Xinge Yu, an assciate prfessr in the Department f Bimedical Engineering at the City University f Hng Kng. The team described their e-skin sensr in a paper published n Nvember 14 in Nature.
The artificial sensr is multi-layered. One layer acts as a transmitter (发射器), which will generate an electric field nce activated, and anther layer acts as a receiver t detect bth the directin and the distance t an bject. A separate cntrller creates the driving signal t activate the transmitter. When an bject cmes within range, the electric field arund the sensr is disrupted (扰乱), which in turn can be detected by the receiver. This data is then prcessed by a micrcntrller unit, which cmputes the psitin f the target bject and sends that infrmatin t a smartphne r ther devices.
A special bigel (生物凝胶) is used in the sensr, which has the ability t transmit and receive electric signals frm a pattern f micrchannels n the surface. The end result is a sensr that is thin, sft and flexible, making it csy t adapt t irregular surfaces, such as the human bdy. In cntrast t the traditinal sensr system that needs a large number f sensrs t achieve spatial psitining, the new system can lcate an bject precisely in 3D space using just a few sensrs. This significantly reduces the pwer cnsumptin f data cllectin, transmissin, and prcessing.
The researchers hpe that this sensr culd ne day pen up a new range f wearable technlgies, including sensrs fr human-machine interactin and thin, flexible e-skin.

B. the inspiratin fr a new inventin

D. the reasn fr develping a sensr
13. What is the crrect rder f the system’s wrking prcedures?
a. The transmitter creates an electric field.
b. A unit cmputes the psitin f the target.
c. The cntrller sends the activating signal.
d. The receiver detects the change f electric signals.
e. The electric field is disrupted by an appraching bject.
A. c-a-e-d-b.B. c-a-d-e-b.
C. a-c-e-d-b.D. a-e-c-d-b.
14. What is an advantage f the new sensr system?
A. Its sensitivity t different stimulatins.
B. Its adaptatin t envirnmental changes.
C. Its efficiency in achieving 3D psitining.
D. Its speed in data cllectin and prcessing.
15. What is the best title fr the text?
A. Machine Detective “Wears” Flexible E-skin
B. Bi-inspired Sensr “Feels” Withut Tuching
C. E-Skin Sensr: The Future f Machine Learning
D. Electric Fields: The Frntier f Object Detectin
