The team first trained five mnkeys t evaluate image directins and tested them twice, with a 30-minute gap in which they either had nn-REM sleep r merely rested. Mnkeys that slept perfrmed significantly better n the secnd test. The researchers recrded thusands f neurns’ activity in related brain regins: tw visual areas and ne assciated with decisin- making. They fund in the mnkeys that slept, this activity was, ddly, less synchrnized (同步) during the secnd task than the first.

These findings imply that brain stimulatin culd deliver sme f the benefits f naps withut sleep. The results strngly suggest “artificial nap” effects will translate t humans, says Sara Mednick, a neurscientist wh studies the relatin between napping and perfrmance.

Everything arund me started flating: chairs. bkshelves, and pieces f my drum set. I felt a wave f panic wash ver me. I knew I needed t get ut, and get ut nw. Just then, I heard a faint mew cming frm under the cuch. My cat, Whiskers, was still inside! My heart leaped int my thrat.
