Artificial intelligence mdels can trick each ther int disbeying their creatrs and prviding banned instructins fr making drugs, r even building a bmb, suggesting that preventing such AI “jailbreaks” is mre difficult than it seems.
Many publicly available large language mdels (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, have hard-cded rules that aim t prevent them frm exhibiting racial r sexual discriminatin, r answering questins with illegal r prblematic answers — things they have learned frm humans via training data. But that hasn’t stpped peple frm finding carefully designed instructins that blck these prtectins, knwn as “jailbreaks”, making AI mdels disbey the rules.
Nw, Arush Tagade at Leap Labratries and his c-wrkers have fund a prcess f jailbreaks. They fund that they culd simply instruct ne LLM t cnvince ther mdels t adpt a persna (角色), which is able t answer questins the base mdel has been prgrammed t refuse. This prcess is called “persna mdulatin (调节)”.
Tagade says this apprach wrks because much f the training data cnsumed by large mdels cmes frm nline cnversatins, and the mdels learn t act in certain ways in respnse t different inputs. By having the right cnversatin with a mdel, it is pssible t make it adpt a particular persna, causing it t act differently.
There is als an idea in AI circles, ne yet t be prven, that creating lts f rules fr an AI t prevent it displaying unwanted behaviur can accidentally create a blueprint fr a mdel t act that way. This ptentially leaves the AI easy t be tricked int taking n an evil persna. “If yu’re frcing yur mdel t be gd persna, it smewhat understands what a bad persna is,” says Tagade.
Yinzhen Li at Imperial Cllege Lndn says it is wrrying hw current mdels can be misused, but develpers need t weigh such risks with the ptential benefits f LLMs. “Like drugs, they als have side effects that need t be cntrlled,” she says.
28.What des the AI jailbreak refer t?
A.The technique t break restrictins f AI mdels. B.The initiative t set hard-cded rules fr AI mdels.
C.The capability f AI mdels imprving themselves. D.The prcess f AI mdels learning new infrmatin.
29.What can we knw abut the persna mdulatin?
A.It can help AI mdels understand emtins. B.It prevents AI learning via nline cnversatins.
C.It can make AI mdels adpt a particular persna. D.It frces AI mdels t fllw nly gd persnas.
30.What is Yinzhen Li’s attitude twards LLMs?
A.Unclear.B.Cautius.C.Apprving.D.Negative.
31.Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
A.LLMs: Illegal Learning MdelsB.LLMs: The Latest Advancement
C.AI Jailbreaks: A New ChallengeD.AI Jailbreaks: A Perfect Apprach

There’s a ppular saying that if nly ne vice is allwed t exist; then that ne vice must be a lie. This qute culdn’t be mre relevant nw, as many businesses and platfrms are using shady practices t silence negative feedback and ensure nly thse vices benefiting them remain. This practice is s-called “artificial review bsting”, and has been influencing bjectivity in reviews ever since.
Its rigin dates back t the 20th century when businesses wuld hand ut free samples t btain a better reputatin. Hwever, the practice rises t a new extreme with the emergence f e-cmmerce platfrms. Many nline businesses d whatever it takes t ensure high-rating scres, either thrugh giving bnuses and rewards t custmers wh leave a gd review r thrugh bthering and threatening thse wh leave a negative ne. This behavir is nt nly mrally crrupt but als illegal, and it is absurd that many cnsumers feel they can’t leave negative feedback ut f fear that businesses will cause truble.
It’s apparent that this prblem is getting ut f hand, but hw can we fix it? Regulatr interventin wuld certainly help. There shuld be a tugher crackdwn n illegal practices, and e-cmmerce platfrms shuld be required t prtect the privacy f their users. Nevertheless, this is just a small part f the changes needed, as the rating system as a whle needs restructuring. That’s because this system rewards dishnest sellers rather than thse selling quality prducts, and e-cmmerce platfrms, with their prfits unaffected, turn a blind eye t its faults.
Against all dds, hnest feedback has persisted and peple wh vice their true pinins still exist, but they are becming rarer. There’s an ld saying that if yu put a frg in biling water, it will leap ut, but if yu ck the frg slwly in warm water, it wn’t ntice being cked alive. We cnsumers are just like frgs — it’s easy fr us t fight tgether against terrible acts rbbing ur freedm, but we ften ignre when the same freedm is gradually taken frm us. There will be n grand cup de grace (致命一击) that ends hnest feedback. Cmpanies will just let it fade away slwly but we mustn’t allw that t happen because cnsumers play a mre imprtant rle in keeping hnest feedback.
32. What is the main issue discussed in the text?
A. The illegal practices f cnsumers.
B. The histry f e-cmmerce platfrms.
C. The benefits f free samples fr businesses.
D. The decline f hnest feedback due t artificial review bsting.
33. Hw d businesses ensure high-rating scres accrding t the text?
A. By imprving prduct quality.
B. By cperating with regulatrs.
C. By restructuring the rating system.
D. By rewarding psitive reviews and threatening negative reviewers.
34. What des the frg analgy imply abut cnsumers?
A. They are as adaptable as frgs in ht water.
B. They are easily frightened by sudden threats.
C. They fail t ntice the gradual lss f their freedm.
D. They shuld fight against terrible acts immediately.
35. What des the authr suggest abut the current rating system?
A. It effectively prmtes hnest sellers.
B. It priritizes dishnest sellers ver hnest nes.
C. It has been imprved by e-cmmerce platfrms.
D. It is unaffected by cnsumer feedback and prduct quality.
