In 2015, Dc Brwn, a “mad scientist”, takes teenager Marty McFly t the future in a flying car. In that future, cars fly thrugh the sky. But nw,10 years after the future shwn in the mvie, flying cars are still nt real.
Hwever, flying cars, a ppular idea in sci-fi since the early 1900s, might sn becme real. Accrding t Xiasng Du, an assistant prfessr at Missuri University f Science and Technlgy, the technlgy t make flying cars already exists. In fact, sme cmpanies have even tested prttypes (样机).
A flying car wuld prbably lk like a mix f an airplane and a helicpter. Since airplanes need runways a flying car wuld take ff like a helicpter using rtating blades (叶片). After take-ff, wings wuld extend frm the car’s bdy, allwing it t fly like an airplane with less air resistance.
Anther design ptin is t add prpellers (螺旋桨) t the wings. At first, the wings wuld face upwards t help the prpellers lift the vehicle. Once in the air, the wings wuld tilt t lie flat, making the car fly like an airplane.
These designs dn’t lk like the flying cars frm sci-fi. Instead, they lk like military helicpters, like thse in sme mvies.
One big challenge fr peple traveling in flying cars is expense. A US cmpany plans t sell flying cars that can als drive n rads, but they will cst abut $300,000 each.
Mst flying cars will be electric due t sustainability cncerns, but batteries are heavy and have limited range. Flying cars require a lt f pwer, especially during take-ff. Current batteries can nly pwer a flying car fr 20 t 30 minutes. Unlike a regular car, a flying car cannt just pull ver when ut f pwer — it wuld fall. S Du and many ther researchers are trying t imprve battery efficiency befre flying taxis take ff.

10. What can we infer abut flying cars?
A. They have been in service in big cities.B. They can perate like a regular vehicle.
C. They cnsume less fuel during take-ff.D. They require light but pwerful batteries.
11. What’s the main idea f the text?
A. Sci-fi films inspire real-life inventins.B. The challenges f flying cars are endless.
C. Flying cars culd sn becme a reality.D. Custmers are cncerned abut flying cars.

Engineers usually build devices using slids like metal r plastic. Hwever, a team in China has created a new type f device using drps f water. These devices help study and management f tiny amunts f liquid, and the best part is that they are easy t build, adjust, and refashin.
The idea fr this prject came frm blcks. Xin Du, a researcher at Sutheast University in Nanjing, China, was inspired when a student brught in a set f blcks. Du realized that just like blcks that can be amalgamated tgether and can be rearranged, water drplets (水滴) culd d smething similar. This culd be a great way t build systems that cntrl the flw f liquids in tiny tubes, a field knwn as micrfluidics, which studies hw liquids mve in small spaces, such as in batteries r t mdel bld flw in the bdy.
In their research, Du’s team designed a system where water drplets culd stick tgether t frm a liquid path. They created a grid with tiny plastic pillars (柱子) that held the drplets in place. When the drplets tuched, they jined tgether but did nt spill (溢出) ut. This allwed the scientists t cntrl the directin f the liquid path. If they needed t change the directin, they culd easily mve the drplets arund, much like changing the setup f blcks.
The system was recnfigurable, meaning it culd be quickly adjusted withut starting ver. This flexibility is imprtant in micrfluidics, where experiments ften need t be changed as new discveries are made.
Du’s team is als wrking t imprve the system by making even smaller channels. Their final gal is t use this technlgy t imprve rganid research, where artificial rgans made frm living cells are studied. This new system culd prvide better ways t supply nutrients r bld t these grwing cells, making the study f living tissues mre accurate and efficient.
12. Hw des the device created by the team in China differ frm thers?
A. It is made frm plastic.B. It emplys water drps.

13. What des the underlined wrd “amalgamated” in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
A. Enlarged.B. Cmbined.C. Distinguished.D. Shwn.
14. What des Du’s team expect f the system?
A. It will have wide applicatin in medical treatment.
B. It will bring a heavy prfit t the team.
C. It will enable students t be fnd f blcks.
D. It will decrease the cst f artificial rgans.
15. Which is the mst suitable title fr the text?
A. Expsure t Varius Blcks Sharpens the Brain
B. There Is a Grwing Trend Tward Playing Blcks
C. Blcks Inspired a New Way t Study Liquids
D. Engineers Unlcked the Secret f Water Drplets
