Laska kept her new habit a secret at first. One day, at the park with her kids, she decided t run t catch up with them n their bikes. “The lk n my daughter’s face when she saw me running was like she saw Santa Claus,” Laska recalls. That’s when she started taking her ne-mile jgs up t a 5 km,10 km, half-marathn and eventually marathn distance. In 2015, she ran her first marathn and wn the first place in her age grup.

Arm wrestling (扳手腕) was ne f my favrite ways f playing with my brthers grwing up. It allwed my yunger brther and me t test ur strength withut getting tackled. I als put up a gd fight when arm wresting with my lder brther and his friends. Their greater strength and experience made the challenge even mre interesting. Every match seemed t end in a gd laugh, n matter wh wn.
Nw I’m a scientist wh studies animals in the wild. I have seen that playing is a great way t scialize; there is s much mre t play than fun and games. When humans and ther animals play, they are building trust with siblings and friends. They learn hw far they can push their partners befre anyne becmes angry r physically hurt. That’s called “testing bundaries.”
Older playmates may self-handicap, appearing t be less cmpetent than they really are t help yunger players learn skills and explre their abilities. Play ffers a safe space, where everyne knws the rules and can experiment with new ways t mve, think, and respnd t thers.
Over the past 30 years, I’ve learned a lt abut play by watching yung male elephants test their strength thrugh sparring (拳击) games with their friends and superirs. Grup sparring matches are cmmn at sunset, when several different elephant families shw up at the water hle t drink.
After the initial excitement f the arrival and a gd lng drink, yung males slip away frm the sides f their watchful mms and aunts t frm sparring rings. An elder sister makes sure that the playing desn’t get ut f hand, s she is ever present with a trunk n the back r ver the head t calm the enthusiasm. That way, the yunger males dn’t end up n the bttm f the pile.
Watching yung elephants spar reminds me that play shuld be part f ur everyday schedule — the less structure, the better.
      8. What des the authr want t say by mentining his/her childhd experience?
      A. Winning is nt the true meaning f play.B. Children prefer t play traditinal games.

      C. By testing their cmpetence.D. By teaching necessary skills.
      11. Hw wuld the authr describe the elephant’s sparring games?
      A. Safe and fair.B. Nt strictly cntrlled.

Scrates declared that the unexamined life wasn’t wrth living fr a human being, implying that we shuld attempt t knw urselves, t think thrugh ur actins, chices, prejudices, and attitudes. But when it cmes t thinking abut ur wn happiness and what makes ur lives g well, it really des seem that this reflective attitude can ruin ur chances f finding what we seek.
Perhaps it’s nt surprising that we are better designed fr engaging in ther activities than reflecting n hw best t achieve ur wn happiness and well-being. Ding things that enhance ur grwth in physical, scial and intellectual areas tends t bring the reward f feeling gd, and s stimulates us further t pursue thse activities. Sitting arund reflecting n what will make us happy is a lt less efficient than chasing the things that make us happy, and if we think t much, there is an pprtunity cst — time that we culd have spent in a wrthwhile activity has gne while we were thinking deeply abut the best way t develp.
The philspher David has written abut the rle f reflective thinking in sprts. One f his bservatins is that while sprtspeple need t think abut the basic actins they are perfrming, it can be cunterprductive t start thinking abut the elements making up thse actins. A ftballer needs t think abut kicking the ball lw and hard t the left f the galkeeper, but nt t verthink the mechanics f the precise small mvements f legs and feet that prduce that utcme. If he r she des start this srt f thught prcess, it very ften leads t a prer sht. What’s needed is a kind f autmatic respnse t the situatin.
Perhaps smething similar is ging n in ur life. Thse peple wh start detailed prgrams f self-develpment in varius dimensins fcusing n diet, habits, exercise, mental activity, wrk utput, and s n, are like the ftballer thinking thrugh the small muscle mvements. Perhaps their well-meaning self-reflectin n their wn develpment and hw they want t achieve it, is the very thing that will make a high level f develpment frever unbtainable fr them.
      12. What may cause an pprtunity cst?
      A. Spending time n wrthy activities.B. Jining in scial meetings actively.
      C. Getting stuck in much self-reflectin.D. Ding physical exercises efficiently.
      13. Why des the authr mentin David’s bservatins?
      A. T praise a wise philspher.B. T teach readers ftball skills.
      C. T cite a case f verthinking.D. T argue fr reflective thinking.
      14. What des the authr suggest readers d t achieve their gals?
      A. Make a cmprehensive plan.B. Adpt a direct apprach.
      C. Think carefully befre actin.D. Attach imprtance t details.
      15. What is a suitable title fr this text?
      A. The Risk f OverthinkingB. The Key t Well-being
      C. The Way t Think ReflectivelyD. The Methd t Develp Yurself

根据文章第一段“Arm wrestling(扳手腕)was ne f my favrite ways f playing with my brthers grwing up. It allwed my yunger brther and me t test ur strength withut getting tackled. I als put up a gd fight when arm wrestling with my lder brther and his friends. Their greater strength and experience made the challenge even mre interesting. Every match seemed t end in a gd laugh, n matter wh wn. (扳手腕是我小时候与兄弟们玩耍的最爱之一。它让我和弟弟能够测试我们的力量,而又不会真的动手打架。在与哥哥和他的朋友们扳手腕时,我也会全力以赴。他们更强的力量和丰富的经验使得这场较量更加有趣。无论谁赢,每场比赛似乎都以欢声笑语告终。)”以及第二段“Nw I’m a scientist wh studies animals in the wild. I have seen that playing is a great way t scialize; there is s much mre t play than fun and games.(如今,我是一名研究野生动物的科学家。
根据文章第二段“Nw I’m a scientist wh studies animals in the wild. I have seen that playing is a great way t scialize; there is s much mre t play than fun and games.(如今,我是一名研究野生动物的科学家。我发现,玩耍是社交的一种绝佳方式;玩耍的意义远不止于娱乐和游戏。)”可知,作者认为玩耍是一种很好的社交方式。故选D。

      【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第五段“An elder sister makes sure that the playing desn’t get ut f hand, s she is ever present with a trunk n the back r ver the head t calm the enthusiasm. That way, the yunger males dn’t end up n the bttm f the pile.(一位年长的姐姐会确保玩耍不会失控,所以她总是用鼻子搭在背上或头上,以平息大家的热情。这样,年轻的雄性大象就不会在打斗中处于下风。)”可知,有年长的姐姐在旁边确保玩耍不会失控,用象鼻放在后背或者头上来平息过于高涨的热情,以防年幼的雄性大象陷入危险境地,但并没有严格的、完整细致的管控体系,整体来说大象的拳击游戏不是严格被控制的。故选B。

Thse peple wh start detailed prgrams f self-develpment in varius dimensins, fcusing n diet, habits, exercise, mental activity, wrk utput, and s n, are like the ftballer thinking thrugh the small muscle mvements.
C 13. C 14. B 15. A

根据第三段“One f his bservatins is that while sprtspeple need t think abut the basic actins they are perfrming, it can be cunterprductive t start thinking abut the elements making up thse actins. (他的一个观察是,虽然运动员需要思考他们正在执行的基本动作,但开始思考构成这些动作的元素可能会适得其反)”可推知,作者提到David的观察是为了举例说明过度思考的劣势。故选C。
      【14题详解】
      细节理解题。根据第三段 “What’s needed is a kind f autmatic respnse t the situatin. (我们需要的是一种对情况的自动响应)”可知,作者建议读者采取一个直接的方法来达成目标。故选B。
      【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段的“But when it cmes t thinking abut ur wn happiness and what makes ur lives g well, it really des seem that this reflective attitude can ruin ur chances f finding what we seek.(但是,当我们思考自己的幸福以及是什么让我们的生活变得美好时,这种反思的态度似乎真的会破坏我们找到我们所寻求的东西的机会)”以及全文内容可知,本文主要讲述了过度思考带来的种种弊端,告诫我们不要过度思考。 故选A。
