M: In the spring f 2021, 12 sailing teams frm arund the wrld cmpeted in the
first-ever Ocean Race Eurpe. The race set ff frm Lrient, France, n May 29, 2021.
Teams f 6 t 10 peple spent 22 days sailing the Atlantic Ocean and the
Mediterranean Sea t the finish line, in Gena, Italy. That’s where the race ended, n
June 19, 2021. Tw classes f speedy sailbats raced in the event: the IMOCA and
the VO65. Offshre Team Germany wn the IMOCA class race. And Prtugal’s
Mirpuri Fundatin Racing Team wn the VO65 class. The Ocean Race Eurpe
presented plenty f challenges. Teams were n their bats fr three straight weeks.
When yu were n bard, all yu d was race, eat, and sleep. There was n Internet
cnnectin and there were n mvies. There wasn’t even a fridge r a freezer inside
the bat. The Ocean Race Eurpe has a larger purpse. During the race, the bats
cllected scientific data frm the salty waters. The data is shared with scientists. It
prvides insight abut hw the cean is affected by climate change. Scientists use
the data t further understand and advcate the wrld’s changing envirnment and
seas.
