What: The listening material belngs t the thematic cntext f Man and self, cncerning learning abut yurself. It’s a interview between Tina, her sister Tara, and the interviewer talking abut the differences between Tina and Tara in persnal traits.
Why: This interview can help teenagers understand the basic ways f cmmunicating in English in daily life, mainly by expressing apprval r disapprval f pinins given by thers. This listening text aims t enable students t better understand themselves and the peple arund them.
Hw: As it’s an interview, the dialgue is frmal, different frm daily cmmunicatin in English. It includes sme thematic vcabulary related t persnal traits like “utging”, “serius”, “hard-wrking”, sme language expressins abut hw t respnd t thers , such as “h sure” , “really” and “nt really” and expressins abut hw t express persnal pinins like “ I think ...”.
Teaching bjectives
By the end f the class, my students will be able t:
1. Acquire the factual infrmatin abut the persnal traits in the cnversatin between Tina, Tara and the interviewer, such as the differences in persnality between Tina and Tara; Grasp the meaning and prnunciatin f new wrds like utging, hard-wrking, and serius; learn hw t use the basic sentence structure fr cmparing. (learning and understanding)
2. Make new cnversatins abut cmparing peple using target wrds and sentence structures based n the infrmatin prvided by the recrding. (applying and practicing)
3. Talk abut and cmpare the persnal traits f their clse friends r siblings using the wrds and sentence structures acquired in the class. (transferring and creating)

Find ut the differences between Hallie and Annie.

Step 2 Shrt Listening (7 mins)
Match pairs f ppsites and intrduce target wrds “quietly”, “ludly”.
Listen and number the pairs f twins in the picture.
Listen and fill in the blank.
Chse ne f thse cnversatins and d a rle play.
Shrt listening practice can help ss internalize new wrds and lay a fundatin fr the fllwing listening activities.
Objectives: Grasp the meaning and prnunciatin f new wrds
Step 3 Listen fr Cmparative Adjectives (3 mins)
Listen and find ut cmparatives adjectives in the interview.
Share and check the answers with the whle class.
Since cmparative adjectives are the new target grammar in this unit, letting ss fcus them is helpful in getting ss familiarized with the new grammar.
Step 4 Listen and Judge (5 mins)
Listen and judge the fllwing statements are true r false.
Tara and Tina lk similar but they are different.

Listen and repeat after the dialgue. Pay attentin t the wrds with -(i)er r mre and intnatin f the speakers.

The third listening aims t develp ss’s ability t imitate s as t imprve their spken English and help them better understand the cntent f the interview.
Step 6 Pair wrk ( 6 mins)
Wrk in pairs. Ask and answer questins abut Sam and Tm n page 18.
Share their sentences with the class.
Objectives: Learn hw t use the basic sentence structure fr cmparing; make new cnversatins abut cmparing peple.
With the help f the given infrmatin in the table, ss can practice using the sentence structure and the wrds with -(i)er r mre.
Step 7 Make Cnversatins (7 mins)
Wrk in pairs and make their wn cnversatin abut cmparing peple arund them using the wrds and sentence structures acquired in the class.
Share their cnversatins with the whle class.
Objectives: Talk abut and cmpare the persnal traits f their clse friends r siblings.
