    Editr's nte:
    Blake is the China
Representative fr Wildaid, an envirnmental rganizatin fcused n reducing demand fr wildlife prducts. In his past 15 years living in China, he has witnessed the changes f public attitudes and gvernment plicies abut wildlife prtectin. In this interview, he talks abut wildlife cnsumptin (消费) in China and the nging revisin f China's Wildlife Prtectin Law.
CGTN:Hw has COVID19 changed public attitudes twards wildlife cnsumptin in China?
Blake:Ever since the utbreak f COVID19 earlier this year, it's been smething that I've never seen n this scale befre—the utpuring f public attentin and discussin arund cnsumptin f wildlife. Everybdy was talking abut ending wildlife cnsumptin all ver the place. And we really need t revise ur regulatins and ur relatinships with nature and wildlife cnsumptin.
CGTN:What d yu think f the criticism against China ver wildlife cnsumptin fllwing COVID19?
Blake: I think there's a lt f misunderstanding glbally arund the cnsumptin f wildlife in China. Fr ne, wildlife cnsumptin happens in every cuntry. We all cnsume wildlife in ne frm r anther. S__it's__definitely__far__frm__a__China__prblem.
But with the utbreak f this disease China acted incredibly fast t clse dwn all sales f wildlife. And China's wrking n updating its plicies and regulatins arund this cnsumptin. And s that's really admirable.
But again, by China taking such strng actin n this, it's nt ging t slve the prblem because it happens all ver the wrld. We really need a glbal mvement. We need t see these live sales clse dwn acrss the wrld.
CGTN: What are sme f the challenges t wildlife prtectin in China?
Blake: A majr challenge is that the industry arund wildlife cnsumptin is s vast and varied. It invlves tens f billins f dllars annually wrth f prductin and cnsumptin. Millins f peple's jbs and livelihds are invlved. And s it's a vast system. There's n easy answer t really imprving it in a quick way.
But I think that's ne f the issues that need slving nw in revising the wildlife prtectin law and ther regulatins that I think we're ging t see cming up sn.
CGTN: What will be sme f the biggest changes t the WPL with the new revisin?
Blake: The biggest change t the law n wildlife prtectin after these upcming revisins will be clarity n which species f wildlife can be cnsumed as fd. Currently, there's a ban n all f it right nw until these regulatins cme ut. But there will be a clarified list that states which wildlife can be cnsumed as fd.
