Dgs might have the latest tls in the fight against cancer (癌症); their nses! Researchers at Califrnia’s Pine Street Fundatin (PSF) say they have trained five dgs t smell cancer n a prisn’s breath. This culd be exciting news.
A dg’s sense f smell may be 10,000 t 100,000 times strnger than urs. But can dgs really smell illness? PSF researcher Michael McCullch says yes. “We were very surprised by hw exact they were,” he said. “They were telling wh had cancer, and they were als saying wh didn’t.”
McCullch and his team asked fur healthy peple and ne with cancer t blw int plastic tubes (塑料管). Special materials in the tubes kept the things f each breath. The tubes were then placed ne yard apart. Finally, the dgs were allwed t smell the tubes. Each dg had been trained fr three weeks t sit when it smelled cancer.
