For years, my time spent in the shower could have got me a mention in Guinness World Records as the shortest time taken to bathe. I hurried up during this process.
One day, however, while at a party, I heard an artist friend telling everybody that his idea came while he was having a shower.
"What about you?”he asked,"Don't you get your creative thoughts from the same place?”
"I'm in and out in a hurry,"I told him proudly. "I have no time to waste!”
"What a pity,"he said. "That's the place where you need to slow down; plenty of great thoughts come from there!"
I tried it out. I slowed down the whole process, started enjoying the warm water, taking a little longer to soap myself and even spending more time just enjoying the process, and realized how much I had missed in hurrying up all these years.
A woman told me how much stress her friend was suffering from and how she sought to convince her that she needed to find ways to relax. She gave her a videotape on stress management and relaxation techniques, and encouraged her to watch it right away. Fifteen minutes later, her friend handed back the tape. "It was good," she said,"but I don't need it.""But it's a 70 - minute video,"the woman replied,"You couldn't have watched the whole thing.""Yes, I did," her friend said. "I put it in fast - forward!"
A major social problem of the 21st century is Hurry Sickness. We hurry through work. We swallow fast food. We complain that we don't have enough time. We race through the days and weeks until one day we look back in amazement and comment,"My god, how the years flew by!"Then we realize the heavy price we have paid for traveling fast.Symptoms of Hurry Sickness include stress and anxiety, bad relationships, lowered work performance and even disease. Some people don't survive it.
What's the cure? Slow down, for life is so short and precious that we must live it well.
    21. Whatwastheadvantageoftakingashowerintheeyesoftheartistfriend?

More than 30 million people were displaced (流离失所的) last year by environmental and weather-related disasters across Asia, and the problem is likely to grow more serious as climate change exacerbates such problems, experts have warned.
Tens of millions of people are likely to be similarly displaced in the future by the effects of climate change, including rising sea levels, floods, droughts and reduced agricultural productivity. Such people are likely to migrate in regions across Asia and governments must start to prepare for the problems this will create, warned the Asian Development Bank.
The costs will be high - about US$40billion---for adapting and putting in place protective measures---from sea walls to re-growing mangrove swamps (红树林沼泽) that have been cut down---that can help protect against the impacts of storm tides.
While large-scale climate-related migration is a gradual phenomenon, communities in Asia and the Pacific are already experiencing the consequences of changing environmental conditions, including more frequent severe storms and flooding," the bank said last week. This could lead to a widespread crisis across the region in coming years if preparations are not made to deal with the current and probable future consequence.
Robert Dobias, climate change project chief at the Asian Development Bank, said that, at present, climate change is still a relatively small cause of migration, as economic causes are the most worrying and frightening, and as disasters happen independently of global warning.
The Asian Development Bank warned that governments must start to make preparations now, because more extreme weather has already started to take effect, though the changes so far have not been so great in their impact. The bank is working on a report that will set out in detail the likely problems and suggest a range of potential policy changes to help deal with them.
    25. Which of the following is closest in the meaning to the underlined word “exacerbate”?
    C. Worsens. D. Reduces.
    26.
    A. Why does climate change happen?
    B. What preparations will be made as protective measures?
    C. How do local governments help people to migrate after climate change?
    D. In which country climate-related migration is most likely to happen?
    27. The Asian Development Bank helps deal with the migration problem by ______.
    A. Working on a report
    B. changing its migration policy
    C. starting a climate change project
    D. lending money to the governments

Tips for Green Travel with Kids
Traveling doesn't mean letting go of all the eco-friendly choices we work so hard to achieve in our daily life. Here are a few tips for green travel with kids:
Booking nonstop flights whenever possible will reduce carbon emissions (碳排放). If the closest local airport doesn't have nonstop flights to a certain place, check in with other local airports to see if nonstop flights are available. 31
Whether you're flying or driving, it's easy when traveling to pull into fast food restaurants for snacks. 32 My kids love to help plan snacks. I let them create their own snacks for the trip at home.
33 At the airport, keep your reusable bottles empty until you havepassed through the security. Fill them up on the other side of thesecurity checkpoint. Single-use plastic water bottles create unnecessary waste and the plastic can be harmful to your health.
34    Open a few windows and turn off the airconditioner. You should also help your children keep their good, green habits from home to place while traveling. Sometimes vacation can mean more than one shower each day—once in the morning and again after getting out of the pool. Pay attention to the number of showers and the length of showers.    35
    A. Walking is good for your health.
    B. Try to cut back to save water and energy.
    C. But you can pack healthy food from home.
    D. Traveling is a great chance to introduce your kids to the world.
    E. Reusable water bottles are easy to bring along wherever you travel.
    F. Save energy by turning off the hotel room lights when you head out for the day.
    G. You might have to drive a bit further, but savingon carbon emissions makes it worthwhile.

It was the middle of the day with the bright sun, blue sky, green grass, and a soft breeze (微风). It was a great day to play outside and the best day of my life because I got a new ball and a new bike as my sixth birthday presents, and I was visiting my cousin, Kristy, at her house.
“Here I go!” shouted David while kicking my new ball. David lived next door and was older than me. I thought he was a wild child, but he was actually very kind. The ball went flying as if it were going to space. “That was high!” Kristy said in surprise and we went after the ball. We all had a great time.
Later we had supper and the food my aunt made was good. While Kristy was helping do the dishes, David and I ran outside to play. We started taking turns riding my bike. David suggested that we ride it to the forest. And I agreed. David and I got on the bike and David started riding fast.
As we rode through the forest, I felt the wind brushing my face. It felt so great and free. Suddenly the bike hit a fallen branch and we went flying off the bike. Lying on the ground, I felt dizzy (眩晕的). I checked myself for injuries and saw some but they didn’t upset me.
    “David!” I shouted out anxiously.
“Hey,” said a voice. I turned my head and it was David, who was standing behind me, holding my broken bike. At the sight of my disabled bike, I was so sad that I couldn’t hold back my tears. It took David some time to calm me down.

    One possible version:
When we realized it was time to walk home, we found ourselves lost. It was getting darker and darker. I felt so scared that tears rolled down my face again. David tried to comfort me. He told me that he once made some marks on the trees in the forest, which might help us find the way home. Therefore, we made efforts to look for the marks but failed. Having walked anxiously for about an hour in the forest, we didn’t find our way out.
It was completely dark when we saw fireworks (烟花) being set off in the distance. We ran excitedly in that direction as fast as possible. Soon we found my aunt’s house, in front of which my cousin Kristy was holding some fireworks and lighting them. Seeing us back safe, Kristy cheerfully hugged us. She told us that when noticing we had been away for long, she was concerned about our safety. She set off fireworks to draw our attention and guide us. It was an unforgettable experience. Without David’s comfort and Kristy’s fireworks, I would have lost in the forest forever.

    听力录音原文:
    (Text 1)
M: Have you ever learned to draw?
W: I never really had the time to learn to draw though some of my friends suggest I give it a try.
    (Text2)
W: Do you know what time it is right now in New York?
M: Let me see... It’s five p.m. now and New York is six hours behind.
    (Text 3)
M: Hi Mary, I come here to tell you I’m off on Sunday. W: So soon? What time will you be back?
    (Text 4)
W: I’ m sorry, but I really must go now, as it’s getting dark. Thank you very much for the delicious meal.
M: I’m glad you enjoy it. Thank you for coming. Please drop in when you have time.
    (Text 5)
W: How much time do you usually spend exercising daily?
M: Frankly speaking, I’m an awfully lazy man. I know it’s time to change.
    (Text 6)
W: Come on, we’ll miss our plane.
M: That isn’t our flight, is it?
W: I didn’t catch it either. Anyway, it’s our turn to check in.
M: Wait a minute! Didn’t I give the tickets to you just as we left our house?
W: You certainly didn’t. You put them into your wallet when we left.
M: Shh…Listen! The announcer is asking Mr. and Mrs. Harman to go to the Flight Information Desk?
W: Perhaps they’ve found the tickets. I’ll wait here while you go and see what they want.
M: Phew! It was the tickets, all right. And guess where they found them!
    W: Come on, dear.
    M: In the ladies’ restroom.
W: In the what! How on earth did they get there?
    (Text 7)
W: Hey. What’s up? You look worried.
M: Not really. I’m just trying to figure out how to get to New York for a vacation.
W: Well, the cheapest way is to ride with someone. Lots of people on campus live in New York. Have you checked the ride board?
    M: What’s that?
W: It’s a big bulletin board in the student union. If you want a ride somewhere, you put a card up.
    M: Where do I get a card?
W: They’re next to the ride board. Just fill in your name and phone number, destination, and day of departure.
    M: That’s all?
W: That’s it. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a ride for free. M: Oh, many thanks.
    (Text8)
    W: Hi , officer. What’s the matter?
M: Can’t you read? It says 55 miles per hour on that sign; you were doing 75.
W: Sorry, officer. I didn’t realize I was going that fast.
M: Yeah, sure. I’m going to take your license. You’ll have to come to the station and pay a fine.
W: But officer, we just got married and we’re on our way to Mexico for our honeymoon. I need my license and money.
M: Why didn’t you think of that before?
W: Can’t we talk this over? It’ll sure spoil our honeymoon. M: No way I’m afraid.
W: Please, officer. I promise I will follow the rules.
M: Well, all right lady. It’s a wedding present from me.
    (Text 9)
W: Did you enjoy your stay here?
M: Yes, very much. Now I’m going to the airport. My flight leaves in less than 2 hours. So could you tell me, what’s the quickest way to get there?
W: Well, we can call a taxi for you. We also have a free airport shuttle service.
M: That sounds great, but will the shuttle get me to the airport in time?
W: Yes, it should. The next shuttle leaves in 15 minutes. And it takes some 25 minutes to get to the airport.
M: Fantastic! Will you please let me know when it’s leaving?
    W: Of course, sir.
M: Now I would like to settle my bar bill. How much is that?
W: Let’s see. It comes to $ 37.50. How would you like to pay for it?
M: I’ll pay with my credit card.
W: OK. If you like, I can leave your bags with the porter. And he can load them onto the shuttle for you.
M: That would be great. Thanks.
W: Would you like to leave a comment on our web page?
M: Sure. I had a really good stay here, and I’d like to recommend your hotel to my friends.
W: That’s very kind of you. Thank you again for staying at Sheraton Hotel.
    (Text 10)
M: If I could go back in history and live when I like, I’d like to relive a period I’ve already lived –the 1960s. I was in my twenties, and everything was being renewed. You really felt anything was possible. Meeting people was the thing, and you went to coffee bars where you met friends and spent the evening. The cinema, the theater, all that was very exciting with new things coming out. In fact, we seemed to be out, all the time! I don’t really remember working—of course, I was a student—or sitting around at home very much. It was the first time ordinary people started going out to eat. We were beginning to be adventurous about food, but we were more interested in meeting people. And dress, yes, that was the revolution. I mean, girls went around in really short skirts. Men were in jeans, and could wear their hair long too. It was a wonderful period. It was like living in an age you could never have imagined, and that never has come back. We didn’t have much money, but it didn’t matter. And there were plenty of opportunities to do whatever you felt like doing.
